Helpful Updates to the Discogs App Over the Years
Over the last few years, Discogs has been listening to your feedback and has worked hard to make the mobile apps a useful part of your Discogs experience. In this post, Discogs summarized a few of the updates that have been rolled out between 2018 and 2021 to make sure you can always access the awesomeness of Discogs, in the palm of your hand.
Download or update now to enjoy the upgraded service and functionality of Discogs on the go (even if you’re not on-the-go right now).
Connect with Friends
In March 2021, the app was updated with the ability to follow friends, just like the main site. With the Friends functionality on the Discogs app, you can:
- See new music that your Friends add to their Collections and Wantlists, as well as their additions to the Discogs Database.
- Discover new music through trusted connections’ reviews and activity on Discogs.
- Add your favorite Discogs stores as Friends to keep their profiles more accessible.
First, you’ll need to know the Discogs username of the person or store you’d like to add as a Friend. Type that into the search bar at the top of the screen. Find the person’s avatar under the Users section of search results and tap their avatar to go to their profile page. At the top-right of the screen, just below the cart and your profile settings, you’ll see “+ Friend.” Tap this to add the person as a Friend.
Once you’ve got one or more Friends added, you can view them in the Friends section of My Discogs, beneath your Collection and Wantlist sections. Tap “See All” to view your full Friends list. You can also tab over to see all your Friends’ recent activity and what they’ve been getting up to on Discogs (as long as their settings are public).
Access to Reviews and Wantlist Sharing
In the December 2020 update, we’ve added improvements to the Wantlist-sharing feature, as well as full review functionality.
Reviews are a beloved element of Discogs Release, Master Release, Artist, and Label pages. And for good reason — they’re a vital way of sharing your thoughts with kindred spirits in the Discogs Community or getting the skinny on a release before you add to cart. Previously, reviews were only available in the Android app, and only to view. Now you have full review functionality in the iOS and Android apps. You can now read, write, edit, and/or remove (your own reviews only), as well as reply to reviews to your heart’s content. If you’re new to reviews on Discogs, make sure you check out guidelines for what to include and what to leave out.
To improve your Wantlist sharing experience, we’ve updated the look of the tiled image and increased the number of album covers that are shared. You can select which album covers you’d like to include in the image or tap “Shuffle” to get a random mix.
Try it out for yourself. Go into your Wantlist in the app, tap the three dots at the top-right, then tap “Share.” You can send your Wantlist to anyone you like over any kind of digital medium like social media, messaging apps, email, or even AirDrop on iOS.
Shipping Rates, Pricing History, and Value Sorting
In our November 2020 update, a few changes were made around shipping rates, pricing history, and sort options.
Shipping Rates are now more upfront. Sellers are required to have their shipping rates entered upfront for every item listed in the Marketplace. We’ve made it easier to see these shipping rates in the app, displaying them below the cost of each listed item. If you haven’t yet entered your address in your buyer settings, you’ll receive a prompt to enter your address or allow the app to use your location when you’re browsing so that we can serve you the correct shipping rate info for your location. If a seller offers free shipping on orders over a certain value, you’ll see a banner at the top of the seller’s store letting you know how much you need to spend in their store to qualify.
Adding a familiar feel to the pricing history. If you’re looking for accurate pricing history for a specific version of a release, Discogs is the place to find it. Now that extends to the Discogs apps. Tap on any release in the Database, then tap on the “Sales History” section to reveal details about how much the release has recently sold for. You’ll see the 10 most recent sales of this item, including the price along, the all-important condition information, and any notes, as well as a graph for a quick overview of how pricing has fluctuated.
Adding value as a Sort and Filter Option. We’ve now added another way to look at your Collection in the Android App, this time value drives the Sort options. Reminisce over the gems that you shelled out large for or marvel over your dollar-bin scores by using Min, Median, or Max values in the sort options. (Android only)
Apple Music Integration
Up until now, the Discogs Community has been able to pair Youtube videos with Master Releases on Discogs. This has been great to offer visitors the opportunity to listen to music directly on our platform. In a December 2019 update, we’ve added Apple Music integration to both iOS and Android apps, so you’ll be able to listen to those releases directly on Discogs without waiting for a playlist to be added manually. As always, we’ll make sure that the music linked to the releases is correct.
Within the Discogs app, you’ll have two possibilities. If you are not subscribed to Apple Music, you’ll be able to listen to samples of the songs. If you’d prefer to fully explore the possibilities that this integration offers, you can subscribe to Apple Music and listen to entire tracks from the streaming platform while in the Discogs App. It’s as good as it sounds!
With this new integration, you’ll be able to browse through the app while still listening to the music you’re playing. This opens a whole new level of navigating Discogs, finding hidden gems, and answering messages in the app while enjoying the music you love. We’ll let you find out the best ways to make use of this new functionality.
Full-Featured Marketplace
We first released the official Discogs app as a tool for Collection and Wantlist management but immediately heard from Discogs users that they wanted a full marketplace integration. Well, we’ve been hard at work and we are excited to finally release the next step you’ve been asking for: a buying integration!
With the January 2018 update, you can review your daily Wantlist message, add to cart, place an order, check your current and past purchases, and communicate with a Discogs seller, all from within the app.
