I think the lack of popularity of Global Goon's music should be explained by looking at what is NOT Global Goon, which is all of us and the music we enjoy most. We are simply not ready to fully understand the multiple layers and richness of his art. Maybe there will be a time when he will gain the popularity he deserves, but for the moment he just speaks a language which is beyond us. Words like "melodic post-rock" or "fusionist" used by the few people who reviewed him simply testify our inability to comprehend his idea of music.

It's funny to see how angry a person can get about happy music (see below). Global Goon is the type of artist that really gets the concept of music being emotionally thoughtful and still convey complex timbres and edits. I myself like the older break beat releases the most as the newer releases lean into acid house realm quite heavy. However all of his tracks have a quirky elegance that is pretty recognizable.

Global Goon is definitely the apex of techno music. He takes a long time to make an album but when he does it is truly a work of art that you'll want to listen to over and over...some bands like fantastic plastic machine put out albums almost once a year and it seems like they wear off after about a couple listens. I still have a copy of Cradle of History(which is one of the best investments in others' music that i have made) and listen to it at least once a week. Johnny Hawk is the man behind the music and he makes health music. On the back of his "goon" album the phrase "An exaltation of Health music" is perfectly fitting. He allegedly uses filters in his music that are supposed to be therapuetic to the ears, thats why it is so easy to relax and meditate on his music. I've heard of people admitting that their stress levels went down just by listening to Cradle of History, and it has nursed me through many bad acid and mushroom trips. I'd give anything this guy does five stars.
