DLT started out DJing with Upper Hutt Posse in the late 1980s. He later went on to form Native Bass, which later evolved into Dam Native. He formed Joint Force with MC OJ & Rhythm Slave in the mid 1990s, and they toured as opening act for Supergroove, which led to DLT meeting Che Fu and later led to their collaboration on the song Chains, which went to number one in NZ for 6 weeks in 1996, a landmark for local hiphop.
