Mea Culpa

Real Name:
Dan Jarman
Profile:
Dan Jarman is from Hampshire, England. Dan has been writing and recording electronic music since he was eight years old. He progressed from a small 4-track recorder to a sampler/PC setup, and by 1995 was writing and producing his own dance productions after wanting to replicate the vibes of his hedonistic nights spent in nightclubs around 1994/95 where he would experience the sound of house, progressive house, early progressive trance and techno. He then had his first vinyl release after submitting a demo to a local record label. The track was DJ Technique – My Definition. Aside from this, Dan had been a huge fan of the first two Enigma albums and was also getting into progressive trance through listening to albums like Global Underground by Paul Oakenfold and so decided upon the artist name Mea Culpa - a track from the first Enigma album. The Gatecrasher Anthem Spiritual Light was then born, which had melodic, atmospheric and ethnic influences, twinned with an epic progressive trance flavour. After submitting a demo of the track to Future Music Magazine, the track was signed to independent label 4D Recordings in 1998. It featured on Gatecrasher and Cream Anthem albums and was playlisted by A-list Trance DJs. In demand as a remixer, Dan was commissioned to lend his production skills to the likes of Chicane/Salt tank, Bonzai Records, Sebatu (Solarstone). Dan was featured on a further two Gatecrasher albums, amongst many others. Dan took a sidestep from producing in 2002 and has been focusing on his new found passion for sound design and more recently, being a father.

Of interest to note is that a lot of Mea Culpa productions have Greek lyrics in them and they all sound like snippets from news media. I dont know why this is the case as Dan Jarman isn't Greek.
