Ilegales

Ilegales is a group of Merengue Hip-House, Latin Pop, Pop Ballad & Tropical Music. Founded by Vladimir Dotel, Álvaro Guzmán, Anthony Cruz (10) and Jason González, in 1993 in the Dominican Republic. The group started as a quartet and is currently a trio.

The first year of the group's creation, it served for the immediate incursion of their songs. Which is why they released "La Morena" and their simple "Fiesta Caliente". These songs were awarded at Acapulco Fest, Premios Eres, Grammy Latino and ASCAP Awards.

In 1995, the group finally released their first album to a fanfare of anticipation. Their self-titled release, "Ilegales" catapulted the group to international status as one of the founding fathers of the new Latin Urban genre known as, "Merengue Hip-House".

With the replacement of Álvaro Guzmán with new member Rafael "Raffy" Rivera; they continued their innovative foray into romantic music; with songs such as "Sólo Me Queda" and "Me Haces Falta". The feverishly hard hitting songs; "Sueño Contigo (Dreaming Of You)" and "El Taqui Taqui "; from their second album, released March 1997, "Rebotando".

On January 15, 1998; a tragic automobile accident took the life of founding member; Jason González. Jason González was the center of several tributes by the group in honor of their fallen friend and brother in music.

After a month of deliberation; the group decided to continue their tour for the sake of the fans and provisionally replaced Jason González with Lenny Medina.

The following year in 1998; a variety of restructuring took place in the group's line-up. Rafael "Raffy" Rivera was replaced with new member Juan Carlos Campos; while the vacancy of fallen member Jason González; was finalized with new member Carlos "Monty" Montaner.

That same year brought the release of their third album, "En La Mira". The chart topping "Baila" & "Beat It With Your Rhythm Stick (Remixes)"; paved way for the South American & Central American tour that returned them to Santo Domingo, Domincan Republic at it's finalé.

After the end of the tour, founding member Anthony Cruz (10) announced his departure from the group.

On October 26, 1999; the recording of a tour album in Santo Domingo, Dominican Republic was finalized for release. The accumulation of their previous successful three albums gave them plenty of material to cover. Their fourth album, "Live" was additionally heralded with tribute song's, "Me He Quedado Solo", originally released by Juan Gabriel & "La Ladrona", originally released by Diego Verdaguer.
