Iskra is an Anarchist band from Canada. They blend elements of crust punk with elements of black metal to create fantastically original music. Throughout the years Iskra has seen numerous lineup changes. Guitar players, bassists, drummers and vocalists have come and gone over the span of the bands decade long existence. With that being said, I think that with every release and every tweaking of the line up, the band consistently got better and better and their sound became more defined and unique. All of the releases are good but I think Iskra has hit their prime and one hell of a stride with releases like Bureval and their recent split with Doom Siren. I personally believe that the addition of vocalist Danielle was the missing link. Not to say that the bands previous vocalists weren't enjoyable, I just think she is the best vocalist Iskra has had thus far. With Bureval we get to experience what I believe is the bands most well written (musically and lyrically), well recorded and well rounded album. Skip ahead a couple years and listen to the split with Doom Siren...It's incredible. They never stop evolving for the better. If that split is any indication of what we can expect on the next Iskra album, I eagerly wait and shake with anticipation.
