The genius of DAF in their heyday is/was that when they came up with riffs they would be transpose them and thus basically have a whole whole song ready.

Well, you seem to forget about 2003's "Fünfezehn Neue DAF Lieder", where the original Deutsch Amerikanische Freundschaft sound was ressurected in all its might and beyond. If they come back with a new album in this decade, I'm confident it will be as much as fine.

If it wasn't for DAF we may never have had Front 242 and Nitzer Ebb. Much should be said about this duo, and unfortunately throughout the years they have always played back up to the more successful EBM acts. DAF's style is extremely unique - they toy with basic drum machine & bassline industrial, to xylophone-heavy pop pieces, to the completely bizarre and experimental. Before anyone else was making industrial-influenced dance music, DAF was there, experimenting, rocking, and above all, having fun with their machines and their audience. Thank you VERY much DAF for making this music accessible to the rest of us... you will never be forgotten, and I hope we see a new album in the next decade!

That's not really true, DAF were, of course, hugely important. But it was Der Mussolini that helped start the whole sound, released in 1981, the same year F242 released 'Principles' bw the early version of 'Body To Body' and Die Krupps released 'Wahre Arbeit - Wahrer Lohn', which later became 'The Machineries Of Joy' with Nitzer Ebb.

Don't forget to thank Conny Plank, the legendary producer, who also lent his talent to some early Killing Joke. Did you notice how by 1987 DAF had dispensed with German lyrics, softened the EBM, lost the edgy sound altogether and launched straight into more conventional HiNRG and gay disco dance musik (the gun and the girl)?

It's no coincidence that that was the same year that their producer Konrad Plank died of cancer. His influence cannot be discounted. If you do hear a new DAF album it won't have the Deutsch-Amerikanischen Freundschaft sound, because Conny contribute the final mixdown.
