'Tracy's songs tend to about love while Jane's are about fish. 'They're not all about fish. I always wanted to be a sailor.. but couldn't be so I wrote songs about the sea instead, I just love the coast;- Jane --- Lip Service fanzine #4 1981.

Marine Girls were a trio for a couple of albums ('Lazy Ways' and 'Beach Party') that prove being simple and themselves makes the perfect concept. Songs about being in love when you're young and (not) getting away with it, even 25 years on still makes us wonder where we were right or wrong.

The music is so beautifully simple and naive - acoustic guitars and bass with trio on vocals, dreamy and lazy, occasionally borrowing the sea/gull tape loop to additional effect. Sort of punky 'Sesame Street'.... Much of this informed later Tracey Thorn's successes (both solo and with Everything But the Girl) yet Marine Girls had a sound all of their own - listen to it, love it and don't forget to carry it along for your summer holidays. Ten thumbs up.
