Formed in 1981 in the city of Rennes, France, the band was then called Angry Rats. Jello (3) was playing guitar, Sylvain alias Polio was singing, Sidney (12) was playing drums and DDcadent was the bassist, all of them with a strong influence of the punk music era 1977 (The Clash, Sex Pistols, Ramones...). The band then practiced its scales on small local scenes.

When their bass player was replaced by Crépon in 1983, they changed their name to Wart (portmanteau word of War and Art) and tended to turn their back on punk, now playing Cold Wave. In 1984, they released the track "New Clear War" on the compilation 1984: The First Sonic World War under their foundation name of Angry Rats, and a few month later it's under the name of Wart that they released the track "Where's The Sun?" on 1984 The Second.

A first split occurred early 1986, but Wart was reborn around Jello (3) and Polio, together with brothers Pascal Douillard on drums and Jean-Yves Douillard on bass. All 4 members were programmed during the Trans Musicales De Rennes in December of 1986, at the time of the "Fiesta Berurière", together with Bérurier Noir, Ludwig Von 88 and Washington Dead Cats. In 1987 and for the first time in a band, a very young Yann Tiersen will be playing on keyboards. The same year, the band will be playing in the Rennes festival Rock & Solex.

In 1988, they split again, Jello and Pascal leaved the band, survived by Jean-Yves and Sylvain whom for a short period of time teamed up in a formation called Steps.
In 2010, Jean-Yves and Sylvain recreated the band for a special concert off the Trans Musicales De Rennes.
