Alexander Kok

Alexander Kok, also known as Bobby Kok (born 14 February 1926, Brakpan, South Africa – died 1 May 2015) was a South African-born British cellist, writer, teacher, a successful session musician and a founder member of the Philharmonia Orchestra. He founded Dartington String Quartet in 1957. In 1960, he became Principal Cellist in BBC Symphony Orchestra until 1965 when he left to work as a 'commercial cellist' for pop and television sessions, performing regularly with such groups as The Beatles.
Brother of violinist Felix Kok and uncle of conductor Nicholas Kok. Son-in-law of violist Harry Danks (1964-1976).
