The Gadgets Duo are some kind of Dr.Jekyll and Mr.Hyde to me. When Bernd Maus & Corrado Izzo started their Gadgets label, they created some of the deepest dance floor dubtechno around without one bad release on that label. Ep's like ´Never Touch A Running System´, ´Be Real´, ´Blue´ and ´Soulstone´ are as good as it's gonna get. But around 2000-2001 when the “Loop Techno“ from labels like Drumcode, CLR, Zenit, and Conform was at it's peak, it seems they tried to do something similar which resulted in silly overpitches, sometimes with a MC 'on speed' shouting over the tracks; techno at its worst! The last release on gadgets was in 2002 and after that it seemed all quality was drained from it. The same occured in the mid 00's with the minimal hype. The producers who peaked then are long gone because their productions lacked soul. We need soul right now, so that house music gets back some of the enchantment from the golden nineties. A small fact about these era's: The Loop Techno made 2000 and One quit his then beautiful detroitish 100% Pure label and the Minimal Hype made Ben Klock almost stack away his records in the attic and take a daytime job as a graphic designer. C'est la vie.
I will never understand why Gadgets changed their artistic path in stead of sticking to what they did best. The Maus & Stolle releases are also worth listening to, just like the Corrado Izzo ep;s especially The Lovely Red Wine ep on Dum records. BTW The OW#1 track on Blue was a set opener for Patrice Scott's dj-sets for a very long time. That says just about everything about the quality of their music.
