WOW. It finally happened. The people won out over the ridiculous discogs Otakus who perpetuated this preposterous mess. I never thought I would see the day. I truly didn't.

Not sure what you are asking for, but in record shops Neil Young would be filed under "Y". Here in Discogs it is under "N", before you even start to wondering what to do about the other artists/performers on the item. For me the format would be Main performer under surname, then given name; then title followed by forward slash (/) and statement of responsiblity as given on the label, or if nothing useful on the label, then the cover; if info. comes from cover then make a note that it does come from that source (the label is permanently affixed to the item carrying the sound itself whereas the cover is separate and could be lost. Note that you would have to make a decision as to who is Main performer (for classical music that would be composer in most cases but could also be a classical performer, soloist, chamber group, orchestra or even conductor). I expect there is more that could be said but Discogs would have to change its guidelines for anything like this to work ...

There are so many reasons why separating artists from bands is plain daft and all very fine for the elite that like to uphold this charade. Any casual investigator popping in here to check out an artists back catalogue would find the reasoning baffling and possibly not even informative and the very reason for looking here in the first place. Discogs is littered with this mess. Costello, Parker, Zappa, Prince but not Beefheart or Springsteen to name a few. While we’re at it let’s create a separate artist for Tin Machine ….yes I know what you’re going to say but it doesn’t hold water. They maybe separate bands in their own right and that’s why when recording without the governor they have separate artist sections and it would be silly to have it any other way. But the simple reason it doesn’t hold up is that when you browse in your local record store for an artist when did you ever have to check one section for a copy of Harvest then look at a completely different section to pick up Zuma. Never will be the answer it wouldn’t make sense and believe me I’ve been looking in record racks for many decades and no store would set out its wares in that way. Now don’t get me started on that two different Alice Coopers nonsense.

Those who seem to have trouble with 'Neil Young and Crazy Horse' being listed as a separate artist should understand that Crazy Horse (formerly the Rockets) were, and still are, a band unto themselves, and I'll bet Neil considers them colleagues rather than merely sidemen. Neil has been very careful and meticulous with his Archives and the wonderful restorations, and I'm sure if we talked to him today, he would agree that Crazy Horse was/is worthy of full credit. Relax, people!

For me, Neil Young is the best rock n roll artist in history and one of the most interesting artist in music history. There is a story and a reason behind every album and almost every song. Being a fan is not only listening to his music, but linking it to his life and getting to know the whole story and point of view. It's really exciting to dig into it and getting to know his life through his albums and music. It's a treasure that he's the first artist to gather all his archives on a website that present his music chronologically with photos, videos and the best quality. He's a true visionary and songwriting genius. There are artists like Elton John who's got like 25 hits and play it all over again for 50 years and there's Neil Young that you can expect any song at his show from his vast catalogue. Every song was created to tell a story, there are almost no fillers in his discography and he probably written about thousand songs.

Would I be correct in thinking Young’s Live at the Riverboat 1969 (Archive Performance Series), is only obtainable through Volume 1 of the Archive Box Set, released in 2009?

Any reason why Youngs second album isn't showing chronologically?

I find it so weird to make a difference between Neil Young and Neil Young & Crazy Horse. Confusing really!

Please fix discography! No "Zuma", No "Everybody Knows This Is Nowhere ". Just because the title says "& Crazy horse" doesn't mean it's not a Neil Young album. Come on man!

March 19, 2022Discog finally merched "Neil Young" & "Neil Young & Crazy Horse" but the album "Neil Young & Crazy Horse - Re-Ac-Tor" from 1981 felt out in this new appearance. It only can be found under "Crazy Horse". That's a big bug!
