Just came across a copy of Love in a charity shop in great condition, I had forgotten about them for some silly reason. I purchased the LP, gave it a clean and sat down to listen. What a great rock band, I know they got classed as Gothic Rock but they are much better than that, great lyrics and riffs, and they still sound fresh. I think I will have to explore their albums more.

The cult would of ruled once again if they had stead the course and followed in the direction of "Painted On My Heart",i was filled with anticipation when i heard this song and to think the cult i remembered for fantastic rock was coming back, yet it was not meant to be as the cult again fell from my grace and created a plastic disc with confusion and noise and without a firm direction.....the cult was trying harder to impress people who doubted their belief in hard rock/rock......a truly impressive goth/rock/hard rock group who lost their creativity and imagination

The Cult were fantastic. They are my favorite pure rock band in history. If they had the right backing and there was no Guns and Roses the Cult would have been that huge. There is nobody who sounds like them and even know their sound is retro nobody did it better before either. How a band from UK could be this american southern sounding and influenced and have their own unique edge is what made them such a cult status throughout their career. Pun not intended. While many think Love and Sonic Temple are the immediate favorites through and through (hard to argue) if you get Electric, Ceremony and 1994's The Cult titled albums u will have another 3+ hours worth of equally excellent tunes. Perhaps just not as good as those albums in a straight listen. They had some blinders that kicked ass and should of been chart toppers. Fire Woman, She sells sanctuary, love removal machine and more. The had fantastic ballads like ciao baby, brother wolf and sister moon and others. The energy they put into their tracks were intense. I remember my brother getting me into them around 1988 just after the Electric album. He had just for his drivers license. In our moment of adolescent freedom fever pitch we played the cassette of Electric and Wild Flower kicked in. We turned left at a light blasting it as loud as we could. We rocked out so hard when the light turned green he ran over the medium accident. Embarrassed we turned it down as we collected ourselves. Only for a second. Rewind and turned it back up. The cult kicked ass. Whether it was drugs, mid management, label issues and riffs between members on why they were not mega stars through all the pre Nirvana cheesy rock bands we may never know. Put on any of their albums and catch a glimpse of one of the best rock bands ever committed to record.
