Chris "Frenchie" Smith

Guitarist and engineer based in Austin, Texas.

Chris “Frenchie” Smith began as a Rock N’ Roll guitar player in bands that he produced and recorded in the early 90’s and early 2,000’s. Sixteen Deluxe and later Young Heart Attack were both on major label record companies, so he spent much time touring several countries and when he could, recording music in Austin, Texas. Even though the “band life” was successful, it reached a good ending point and Frenchie was ready to begin his main focus on producing and helping other bands find great sounds for the world to hear.

He now has produced well over two hundred records, including And You Will Know Us By The Trail Of Dead, The Toadies, Meat Puppets, Built to Spill, JET, Grege Rolie, The Answer, and has worked with many others such as The Darkness, The Dandy Warhols and The Datsuns, plus MANY local Austin bands.

As a successful indie-producer, Frenchie has achieved a Grammy nomination, has gotten to work with many foreign musicians, recorded at many notable studios all over the world, and was also chosen to speak at the 2009 SXSW Producer Panel convention with other well known producers.
