Its actually been many years since Rockwell graced the drum & bass scene with his presence, and although his production quality has remained as razor sharp as ever, it pains me to say it but the output of this production has been on rapid decline.
In the early (2010) days Rockwell found a home on Shogun & Critical, putting out tunes which blew the minds of mere mortals & producers alike. The percussion and low end of tracks like Underpass, Live for the Moment, Bone Structure & Shards were just not human. Rockwell was a forward thinking producer & one of the most exciting DJ's in drum & bass, (DNBTV70) with a talent for giving little regard for the norm and playing tunes which were hi-tech, different and really out there. This style was why he was such an interesting & exciting DJ to watch (early Shogun nights at Cable were madness) and, despite the style shift, he remains this way. On a side note, he really knows his way around a CDJ too, using it to its full capacity, something actually quite rare for a DJ nowadays.
Times have changed however and as Critical and, particularly, Shogun have declined in quality so has Rockwell's output.
However, we still have the good days and the dark, forward thinking, low end growls and percussion of the Noir, Stowaway and Aria EP remain.
