Daina Dieva is a sound and performance artist, curator and researcher from Lithuania.
Daina Dieva's sound is a layered, multi-faceted mixture of voice, effected guitar patterns, noises, drones and various instruments, like bamboo flute, bells, chimes, metallophone etc. She experiments with field recordings, as well as; in recent years with feedback loops using only mixer and a couple of loopers for (very) noisy live performances, sound-system allowing.
The project is active since 2008. During this time, DD has played live concerts in various events - from small scale appearances in underground bars and venues in LT, IT, DE, EE, LV, FI, PL, to bigger scale festivals, such as Tundra (LT), Mėnuo Juodaragis (LT), Wroclaw Industrial (PL), Skanu Mezs (LV). Since the outset, she has been working on sound for performance art and film. Since 2016 an additional compositional line of her soundworks is creating dance for contemporary dance in international setting (DE, PT) and, occasionally, theater.
Born in Kaunas (LT) Daina (Dieva) Pupkevičiūtė grew up singing in choirs and ensembles since she was seven, hereby proving to have been given the perfect name (daina (Lithuanian) means a song).
