Deep Purple

Profile:
Hard Rock band from England, United Kingdom.

The band formed in 1968. Along with Led Zeppelin and Black Sabbath, they are considered to be among the pioneers of heavy metal and modern hard rock, although some band members believe that their music cannot be categorised as belonging to any one genre. They were once listed by the Guinness Book of World Records as "the loudest pop group", and have sold over 100 million albums worldwide. Deep Purple were ranked #22 on VH1's Greatest Artists of Hard Rock programme.

Deep Purple were inducted into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame in 2016.

Deep Purple, along with Led Zeppelin and Black Sabbath, is one of three major pioneers of the heavy metal genre. Unlike Led Zeppelin and Black Sabbath, Deep Purple did not make it big in the States, maybe because of their more progressive sound. They sold less album and are likely less influential than Led Zeppelin overall, but they were extremely successful and still are very popular in Europe and in Asia where they sold more albums than Black Sabbath ever did. Every progressive metal band owns something to Deep Purple. Mikael Akerfeldt, leader of the Swedish progressive metal band Opeth has the following to say about Deep Purple: "When Deep Purple are on top form, there is no other band that can rival that. You couldn’t put Led Zeppelin against Deep Purple on top form… they would disappear. And especially Black Sabbath, they wouldn’t stand a chance! It’s high energy at the top of its game." As you might have guess, Deep Purple is also my favorite of the three.

I ever loved alla these bands and have all their albums but they're much different among them, can't compare directly!
D.P. are a unique combination of hard rock and melodic sound. Stunning..
Like almost anyone here l love much Cream and want add to this list The Doors..maybe my favourites.
But they're all like friends for me and i listen and love them at the same time!!!!
Deep Purple ? i love their first 3 albums with old lineup, but all discography is incredible and Gillan is fantastic even as soloist.
I put this group at first place in my preferences.

"The loudest band in history"...."Posh Mans Led Zeppelin"....whatever people say deep purple were one of the founders of rock music and one of the greatest bands to have ever lived. No other band has a legacy like Deep Purple, whether you prefer the early and late material with Gillan on vocals or the late 1970s folk rock of David Coverdale, Deep Purple catered for a wide audience. The bands power peaked with the release of Machine Head which contains their biggest hit "Smoke on the water" but others were firm favourites too like Highway Star and Space Truckin.
They hit a low in the years to follow with Blackmore and Glover going on to play in Rainbow and Gillan having a break, but like birds to the nest they reformed to produce the stunning "Perfect Strangers" in 1984, my favourite album of the 1980s largely because it was the MKII line up.
Their sound was still as fresh as ever and Blackmores guitar tone is so heavenly angels are jealous!! [listen to "wasted sunsets" and youll hear what I mean]. Still touring to this day with Ian Paice the only member to have been in the band throughout its career, you cant beat a bit of Deep Purple!!.... child in time, fireball, stormbringer, burn, soldier of fortune, black night, hush are still all classics...to all the trainspotters ive edited "Blackmore" now, problems with predicted typing I guess, R.I.P. Jon Lord by the way
