Berlin/DC duo Benoit & Sergio appeared somewhere in the junction of 2009 and 2010 and since then with only a handful of tunes ("Walk And Talk", "What I've Lost", "Midnight People", "Principles", "Everybody"...) have built themselves as the greatest hopes of a mutant and deliquescent house music genre flirting with drugged-up synthpop. Their modernity and flair lies in the fact that they avoided so far the two main traps in which most of their colleagues would fall : over glitchy and finally dangerously close to soulless sound FX on one hand (ie. the Bruno Pronsatto school) ; and over pseudo-detached self conscious attitude on the other (say the Wolf+Lamb area). B & S stand in the middle with a quite superior melodic and climatic sense, and remained so far very fresh, soulful, original and exciting in their approach, subtly mixing melancholy and bittersweet humour ("my baby does k all dayyyy"...). Oh yes and : their modernity also lies in their apparently very current drugs of choice (synthetic, brain and space twisting ones), which can be heard without too much caricature in their sound production and voices treatment (and sometimes lyrics). Two real Renaissance men so far then, let's hope that the future confirms 'em as XXIst century dandies, the scene needs more of those.
