Frank Schulte

German sound creator Frank Schulte, born 1962, plays synthesizer, sampler, tapes and records, vocals, piano and electronic effects. He combines his sound generating equipment into a musical household - efficient and functional. Out of the European musical traditions, sound installations, music for unknown films and in applications for New Dance Culture of musique concrète he has created noise stories, song-lines and dreamscapes in a very personal language. He is involved variously in mixed media projects and electronic listening music. He has conceptualised numerous intermedia events such as Switchbox and The Listening Room, in which his selection of sound arts, ambient music and improvised electronic music, as well as elements from the electronic-dance-music-scene, are locked together in dense friction. Since 1986 he has played in clubs, at international festivals and in concert halls all over Europe, collaborating with an international roster of improvisers and performers, including Jon Rose, Anna Holmer, Sussan Deyhim, Sainkho Namchilak, David Moss, Axel Otto, Andres Bosshard; and with David Shea and Otomo Yoshihide, with whom he has worked since 1996 in the trio Linguistic Research Laboratory.
