Andy Chertow was born in the USA. While visiting Jamaica he heard Soul Power & Sound play at a resort and liked what he heard. After talking with them during a ibreak, he was encouraged to jam with them. He decided to return quickly with equipment and a plan to start recording.

The band worked with the Tuff Gong label, which was founded by Bob Marley and became one of the most iconic record labels in Jamaica. Tuff Gong released the single "Yard Music" in 1982. They also recorded in the Tuff Gong Studio in Hope Road which adds to the historical significance of their music.

The release of their album “The Right Procedure” in 1988 further cemented the band’s reputation in the reggae scene

In 2018 they were rediscovered by Greg Bourgade of Hornin' Sounds leading to more releases.
