The band has been pretty good on reissuing their catalogue on vinyl but there are some obvious releases missing. I know "Weird Revolution" is a wet dream of a reissue due to its negative reception (by everyone including the band) but no "Cream Corn"!?. C'mon boys!

Perhaps the most memorable live shows, EVER!! I was able to see them in a small club in Richmond, Va in 86 or 87. They had the naked girl dancing, but since it was illegal in Va they made her put a tour shirt on. And that proceeded to catch fire when Gibby did his "flaming cymbal" thing. Roadies patted the flames out and she never stopped dancing! Plus they played with a very young GWAR. Definitely a night to remember!!

I have to echo some other comments about their live shows in the mid to late 80's. They were insane. 2 drummers completely in sync, wall of echo, delay and effects, megaphones, and other devices for Gibby Haynes vocals, a completely naked woman dancer with down syndrome, STD films or Charlies Angels tv shown upside down on huge screens, wall of strobe lights and other killer lights. I was only 16 years old at some of their shows but they sure made an impression on me and semi scared the shit out of me at the same time.

Been my favorite band since 1984. Seen them live 9 times in Seattle and once at the King fairgrounds for Lollapalooza 1. Want to hear them in their full glory check out Double live. Best studio album, Psychic Powerless another man's sac. My favorite Butthole Surfers song, Human Cannonball.

Hey Buttholes ! How about a nice vinyl boxset of the first 4 Lp's, first 4 Ep's and the Double Live ? I would certainly drool a bunch and shell out whatever price you would ask.....and so would a whole buncha other folks, for sure....just think, a boxset of the Buttholes - my gawd !

these guys' live performances through the 2nd half of the 80's were a lot of fun and highly entertaining. they were the shit. and i'm still fond of all their records....up until 'stairway' which is when, imo, they started losing their edge, but they didn't lose a place in my heart.

I didn't follow their development in the 90s anymore (I've heard complaints about a sellout) but I am real happy to have seen the Butthole Surfers live on stage 1987/88 in West Berlin.

The club at Nollendorfplatz was rather small and packed to the rim. The grungy backwater island of Berlin, surrounded by the wall, with its still war-scarred streets and the dark and timeless never-never-land feeling that permeated everything and everyone provided the perfect backdrop for their show. Which remains among the top three I ever attended. Completely brainless.

The sound rolled over us like the bulldozers projected onto the screen behind. The naked dancer was there, on a small pedestal, the films showing construction works and surgery and whatnot, she moving epileptically to the music, at one point starting to vomit into her hands and throwing the puke into the raving audience. A revelation. I've never so sweated.

I recommend the double live album for starters, it conveys at least a faint shadow of the Surfers' stage presence. Of the studio albums Locust Abortion Technician is probably their most accomplished. Five stars for lifetime achievement in any case.

Anyone who saw this band at their peak knows how amazing and demented they truly were. Distorted 'gibbytronix' vocals over a cacophony of whirling punk psychedelia that dripped of darkness and at times was menacing in its heaviness. Like a bad fever dream their live shows were especially exciting. At one show in NYC they played a blinding set complete with a naked woman painted blue and dancing while films of surgery played on the wall behind them. The closer was a particularly nasty version of 'Sweatloaf'. The 'Double Live' album showcases them in all of their glory.
