Native of Providence, Rhode Island, Conte gained his piano education under such greats as Michael F. Lozzi and Fritz Kriesler. He went on to play, until the age of 16, with Joe Venuti and His Orchestra. Conte returned to study at the Longy School of Music, affiliated with Harvard University, under such acclaimed teachers as Gregory Tucker, Irwin Bodky, (Dean) Melvil Smith and, eventually, Mr Leopold Mittman, a well known concert pianist and accompanist. It was Guy Lombardo who discovered and introduced Conte to New York City.
Conte was a regular act at the Hotel Roosevelt Grill in New York City, and appeared on TV as well as many hotels across the country.
