What an extraordinary skill, depth, darkness, quality, balance and hurt is combined in Raime! This is not your average dark ambient. There's the stillness and acoustics of classical music in minor key. There's the electronic dubbyness of Basic Channel, Chain Reaction, Monolake, etc. There is the repetitiveness, droning and oppressiveness of Vatican Shadow. There's a tribal and in times raw intense folk feel which I don't have any reference to (Wovenhand comes closest). As if this wasn't enough, there's all the crispness, noise and hurt a high quality dark ambient producer wouldn't hesitate a second to release. Everything is in perfect proportion and nothing is there that could have been left out. So short after discovering them I can't think of anything else I'd prefer tot torture the soul with, which I don't have. Raime has me by the throat (not in the slightest bit coincidentally the same metaphor as Ben Frost used for his 2009 release). What more is left to do but stand in complete awe of such painful genius? 5/5
