His career began in the late 1950s and he had his first hit with I Don't Want To Cry! in 1961. In 1967, he moved from Scepter Records to Motown to record a few singles there. During the 1970s, he recorded a few albums and singles on various labels including ABC Records and All Platinum, but never gained as much success as in the 1960s. In the 1980s, he went to EMI America and sung vocals on two Gary U.S. Bonds's hit albums and later recorded two singles for the Motor City label. He was Ann Sexton's cousin.
