Berger's music is among the finest contemporary music I have heard. The works are expressive and range from lyrical to violent - but always with conviction, elegance and deep emotion.
The performances on the Naxos CD, Miracels and Mud are incredible. These string quartets, expertly performed by the amazing St. Lawrence String Quartet, and the solo vilin works recorded by Livia Sohn are all outstanding.
Berger's style is original, highly creative yet grounded in the tradition of lyricism and emotion.
I highly recommend Miracles and Mud - this is stunning music!
