Profile:
A symphonic heavy metal band from Kitee, Finland, founded in 1996 by Tuomas Holopainen.

Nightwish was initially founded as an acoustic band with Holopainen on keyboards, Tarja Turunen on vocals and Erno "Emppu" Vuorinen on guitar, but turned into a heavy metal band in 1997 when drummer Jukka Nevalainen joined and they started to use electric guitar instead of acoustic one.

The group has gone through few lead vocalist changes on their career. First with original member Tarja Turunen in 2005 and then with Anette Olzon in 2012 before settling on Floor Jansen in 2013.
Long time drummer Jukka Nevalainen was forced to quit the band for good in 2019 due to health issues (insomnia). Another key member, Marco Hietala quit due to personal issues in 2021.

So a month or two ago I picked up Human. :||: Nature black vinyl at a local record shop in Stockholm. When i placed the order I had to wait about a month before I could pick it up. Now here's the kicker: The hype sticker is lacking the line "Strictly Limited Edition".

That would tell me that this ought to be one of two things:

1) Nuclear Blast repressed the black edition of this making the "Strictly Limited Edition" a lie
2) The hype sticker is misprinted

Other than the hype sticker this seems identical to other version. Anyone know more about this?

I prefer the innocent era of the first 3 albums. This era has something special.

NIghtwish is simply one of the finest bands- period.

Tuomas Holopainen (keyboards) writes all of the music and lyrics then presents them to the band in demo form for their input, their solos, etc. He's a musical genius... there's just no other way to word it. He likes to combine many elements into multi-piece musical journeys, pulling from classical, theatre, rock, metal, folk, and Celtic music. The lyrics will deal with extremely personal stories of love, depression, and loss, to fantasy themes about dreams, Waldens, and Disney-type childhood wonder, all the way to scientific themes including tributes to Carl Sagan, Eugene Shoemaker, etc.

Floor Jansen, Nighwish's 3rd and current lead vocalist, is arguable one of the finest singers on the planet. She has a warm yet powerful soprano voice register, can perform everything from heavy metal growls to the most sensitive ballad to the most powerful rock belt... all while drawing ever ounce of emotion out of the song. Her performances have such an impact on people, they've coined people's reactions, "Floorgasms".

Marko, the bassist, is a multi-instrumentalist that can sing. His duties include bass, rhythm guitar, backing and lead vocals. He's signed to Warwick and favors the buzzard bass originally designed by the Who's Entwhistle... which has an amazing and distinctive tone. For his singing, in 2020 he won the Masked Singer Finland, which is quite amazing if you think about it. This band has so much talent that their bassist won a nation-wide singing competition against other pro singers.

For sake of brevity I won't ramble on about all in the band, but this should be enough for you to get my point... this band is absolutely worth your time... they can change your life.

Everyone has their favorite songs, favorite albums, favorite concerts or time periods for this band, but I believe it's pretty universally accepted that a great song to try and start your Nightwish journey is Ghost Love Score, performed live at Wacken 2013. The video is easily viewable on Youtube, or on their DVD/Blu-Ray Showtime/Storytime. Ghost Love Score is one of three songs the fans (Nightwish Army) consider the trinity. Along with Ghost Love Score, there is Poet And the Pendulum and The Greatest Show On Earth. All three are multiple act songs, all clocking in at well over 10 minutes, with Greatest being over 20 minutes. Where Nightwish does have a couple of standard 4 minute songs, one of the great joys of their music is the prog-rock into classical composition style of Tuomas. These aren't just songs, they are pieces of music, mini operas if you will, that will take you on a musical journey... and it is very common for people to be left in tears, sometime of joy from the magic they just heard, sometimes because the music or the lyrics hit close to home and they empathize with Tuomas given their own journey through pain and loss in their own lives. Again, I can't state often enough... this isn't music, it's magic.

If you prefer standard pop/rock song structure, you might check out Ever Dream or Storytime, both live from Wacken 2013 (check Youtube for the live videos... this band is one of the few bands on the planet that is truly better live than in the studio).

If you prefer harder, more metal music, I would recommend Romanticide from Wacken 2013, or Yours Is An Empty Hope live from Wembley 2015.

If you like the longer, prog-rock type 20-minute epics, there is Ghost Love Score live from Wacken 2013, Poet And The Pendulum live from Wembley 2015, and Greatest Show On Earth, live from Tampere. (the 3 song of the trinity)

If you prefer slower, more melancholy music that speaks directly to your soul, I highly recommend my personal favorite song from Nightwish... Dead Boy's Poem, live from Buenos Aires 2018.

Catch this band LIVE, if you can. Excellent musicians and a fantastic stage show as well. You will not be disappointed.
