The Sprags

The Sprags

The beginning of The Sprags can be traced back to when founding members Scott Hunt and Dusty Whitman were 13 years old. Whitman received a black guitar for his birthday and he and Hunt set out in search of a white bass to go with it. As the boys taught themselves to play, using old vinyl LPs and Beatles' songbooks, they discovered they also possessed talent for writing their own songs.

In high school, Hunt and Whitman teamed up with guitarist Mark Bickle and recruited Rob Weaver on drums. During a game of Balderdash at a party, the word "sprag" turned up. The Sprags were born.

Weaver left the band in 1996 and was permanently replaced in 1998 by legendary musician and producer Mark Mikel. In late 2000, Bickle made the decision to pursue a career in film and television. Guitarist Dan Greunke (formerly of Glide) jumped at the opportunity to join one of his favorite local bands onstage.
