Profile:
American pianist, born 7th December 1960 in Wilmington, Delaware, USA. Playing piano since age of six. Studied at New England Conservatory of Music under Joe Maneri. He also cites lessons with Dennis Sandole as formative. Moved to New York in 1984 to launch music career. In 1988 Shipp recorded his first album as bandleader in a duo with Rob Brown (4). Although most of his work is free jazz, Shipp has also performed in the classical and hip-hop genres.
