CJ Mackintosh

Real Name:

Christopher John Mackintosh

Profile:

DJ, producer and remixer from London.
Born in Paris but raised in London, CJ's DJ career began at the age of 15 when he and his 17-year-old brother set up their own sound system and began playing house parties in south London, mixing up disco, jazz, funk, soul and early hip hop. He blagged his first professional gig at Flim Flam, a night in southeast London run by Coldcut's Jonathan More.
In 1987, he made a name for himself by winning the UK title in the DMC Mix Championship. Dave Dorrell, another DJ prominent on the London club scene, asked CJ to join Nasty Rox Inc., one of the first bands to mix rock and dance, with a DJ playing alongside the live instruments. Lauded by the style press, they toured extensively and recorded an album with Trevor Horn. But ironically, it was a one-off dance single, M|A|R|R|S - Pump Up The Volume, made with Dorrell and members of indie bands A.R. Kane and Colourbox, that had more impact, topping the UK charts in September 1987 and charting in the US the following year.
CJ continued his prolific mix career into the 1990s, working on tracks by multiple major label artists, producing his Love Happy project and releasing a number of mix CDs.
Resident DJ at the Ministry Of Sound club in London in the 1990s.
Founded Cosmack Management aka Cosmack Management Limited with Lynn Cosgrave in 1997.
