Charly Drobeck

Charly was born to a family of art and music lovers. At age 8 she began piano studies, and soon segued to flute. In high school, Charly's interest in jazz blossomed while she continued private studies, performed with the fledgling Empire State Orchestra in Alice Tully Hall in New York City, and gave her first public recital.
In 1980 she was off to Indiana University, where she cultivated her interests in jazz and ethnomusicology, theatre and arts administration, as well as continuing flute studies with Karl Kraber and Harry Houdeshel. In 1985, Charly graduated from IU with a BA in music.
In fall of 1985, Charly moved to Santa Fe, NM to take up a position at New Mexico Repertory Theatre. While working there, she was fortunate to find her mentor, Carol Redman of the Orchestra of Santa Fe/Santa Fe Pro Musica. There she played as second flutist until 2006.
