In 1980 she was off to Indiana University, where she cultivated her interests in jazz and ethnomusicology, theatre and arts administration, as well as continuing flute studies with Karl Kraber and Harry Houdeshel. In 1985, Charly graduated from IU with a BA in music.
In fall of 1985, Charly moved to Santa Fe, NM to take up a position at New Mexico Repertory Theatre. While working there, she was fortunate to find her mentor, Carol Redman of the Orchestra of Santa Fe/Santa Fe Pro Musica. There she played as second flutist until 2006.
While performing with Pro Musica on both traditional and baroque flutes, she also collaborated with the San Miguel Trio, Oncydium Chamber Baroque, Moveable Music, the Santa Fe Womens' Ensemble and in recital and street theatre with Scott Robb/Zsolt and pianist Lin Raymond. She also had a brief-but-thrilling collaboration with Middle eastern rocker, Sharon Eliashar of Ruby at the Fig, and recorded CELEBRATION OF LIGHT with new Age master, Deuter.
In 2011, Charly has enjoyed recording music with her Guinean drum teacher, Ibrahimsory "Soriba" Fofana and Soliel d'Afrique for the documentary film, BIRDS IN THE PARK (www.birdsinthepark-thefilm.de); for the upcoming documentary Return of the Horse and with composer/arranger Mary Outten (www.marykimballoutten.com) for her CD, SONGS + SONNETS, from the time of Mary Sidney.
Charly enjoys teaching local youths and adults in her Tesuque studio. Her wish in each lesson is to teach strong fundamentals and engender in each student a joy of learning about music, self, and life.
Charly enjoys hiking, gardening and playing silly games with Magic the Wonder dog. She resides in Tesuque, NM with her partner Sam Berne.
