A.R. Kane

A.R. Kane

Profile:
Multi-instrumentalist band that invented Dream Pop.
The name derived from the "A" in Alex (Ayuli) and the "R" in Rudi (Tambala), the band's core duo. A.R. Kane ushered in two significant musical movements in England:
"sampladelic" dance and house music, where it remains an integral part of rave culture and its outgrowths.
They also exerted a profound sonic influence on the legion of trippy Shoegazer guitar bands that would emerge a few years later in the UK, as well as running H.ark!.

All of the members of A.R. Kane (Alex Ayuli, Rudy Tambala, Russell Smith) were also involved in the cut & paste, heavy on the samples, "Pump Up the Volume" by M/A/R/R/S.

To quote the Discogs main page for M/A/R/R/S...

"M|A|R|R|S was a one-off collaboration between Colourbox and A. R. Kane along with C. J. Mackintosh, John Fryer and Dave Dorrell. The name might stand for M: Martyn Young (Colourbox), A: Alex Ayuli (A.R. Kane), R: Rudy Tambala (A.R. Kane), R: Russel (connected with A.R. Kane at the time), and S: Steven Young (Colourbox)".

In case of confusion caused by The Guardian's declaration that AR Kane invented shoegaze, please compare the release dates of AR Kane's records against the Cocteau Twins'.
