Harry Chatmon

Blues pianist and vocalist
Born probably Bolton, Miss. Member of the large Chatmon clan. Brother Sam Chatmon: "We started out from our parents - it's just a gift we had in the family. Three or four of us took a few music lessons, but the rest of us grew with it just by ear". They mostly played in Central Mississippi and the Delta; some of them became known as the Mississippi Sheiks. Harry was still living near Jackson, Miss., in 1960 (from "Deep South Piano" by Karl Gert zur Heide)
