Assembled by London music industry impresario Larry Page (then manager of The Kinks) via an advert in Record Mirror. The group comprised experienced session musicians and had a club Rhythm & Blues sound.

Despite a strong club-based following and TV appearances - including the prime-time Ready, Steady, Go and Z-Cars - commercial chart success evaded the band. As a result, the group fell apart leaving just sax player Bob Evans as custodian of the name.

Evans recruited a new line-up and management was taken over by another industry mover and shaker Joe Meek. Line-up mark two moved away from R&B to a more beat Pop sound. When Meek died after a few single releases the band were left without a recording contract. They continued to play live albeit with numerous line-up changes.
