Rodion G. A.
Profile: | Early krautrock / hard rock and experimental electronic group, formed in 1977 in Cluj-Napoca, Romania, active until 1983. The group split and fell into obscurity, with Rodion Roșca retreating to rural Transylvania. The project began in the early 1970s with the home-recording experiments of it's mastermind, Rodion Roșca. During this time he created numerous home-recordings on his reel-to-reel tape recorder, some of these early songs evolving into Rodion G.A. songs. The band proper, was formed in 1977, with the addition of Gicu Fărcaș and Adrian Căprar. Although the band was only able to release 2 songs during the Romanian communist rule, they received radio airplay, were able to play live, and were well-known inside the country. They were notable for their unusual experimental sound at the time. On December 12, 1982, Constantin Ivaneș (alias Sergiu Alex) announced in the Tribuna Culturală (= Cultural Tribune) paper the release of the future first Rodion G.A. album for the summer of 1983, but it never appeared. With the rise of the internet, word of the project and its unusual sound started spreading again, and Rodion G.A. made a comeback, finally able to release his old material on vinyl and CD. But with the passing of Rodion Roșca on the 27th of March 2021, Rodion G.A. came to an end. Today Rodion is considered the "Father of Electronic Music in Romania".
