Co-founder of Riverside Records (1953) with Bill Grauer, Milestone Records (1966) with Dick Katz and established Landmark Records (3) in 1985. Supervised reissues in his later career, including Duke Ellington - The Duke Ellington Centennial Edition: The Complete RCA Victor Recordings (1927-1973), a 24 CD box-set. Father of critic Peter Keepnews.
