My generation's Randy Newman, except his voice is unbelievably better and manages to make the derivative hooks Al uses into much better songs than the originals with his fantastic lyrical work. Seriously, who still listens to "Ridin'" by Chamillionaire when you can listen to the superior White and Nerdy? Amish Paradise is another excellent song as well, as is the extremely clever "Word Crimes" parody of Blurred Lines. But mention Weird Al and the average person could probably name at least 4-5 of his songs, others notably Fat, Eat It, The Saga Begins, I Lost On Jeopardy, and Word Crimes. Like others have said though, he is a great songwriter in his own right, I personally like "This is the Life." And I enjoy UHF as a movie, which features Fran Drescher, Michael Richards, and David Proval amongst other notable actors who went on to much bigger things.
Others have tried to imitate his style, notably the Copacabana parody "Star Wars Cantina" by Richard Cheese/Mark Jonathan Davis and spin it into a parody lounge career. He is not nearly as good though. Often imitated, never duplicated. That is Weird Al.

I really want a few of the albums on vinyl (self-titled, Bad Hair Day, Poodle Hat, Straight Outta Lynwood, etc) but jesus christ I want an option to purchase them separately instead of through Squeeze Box

Last night (4/16/2019) I had this dream where "Weird Al" was performing with in the gym at my school, and with him Hatsune Miku. (I know, strange.) The only song I remember hearing in it was "Tacky", and I don't think Miku performed with him on that one. I also ate a chocolate bunny in said dream, for some reason. Strange dream.
Is there going to be a re-issue of Weird Al's post-UHF work on vinyl? (I really want a copy of Alapalooza on vinyl, and I don't want to spend a fortune on Squeeze Box.)

Unfortunately the great parodies are overshadowed by some of the even better original tracks.
Even DISCHARGE couldn't write a better doomsday song than "Christmas At Ground Zero"

Weird Al. Oof. What an am embarrassment. Parody songs are as low as it gets. Virtually leeching off others work.
