Jim Morrison was a genius, and a man with a good heart. Unfortunately his demons and alcohol addiction got the best of him, and that crappy Oliver Stone movie with Val Kilmer really sullied his reputation, portraying him as a one-dimensional prick.

Jim was deeply abused by his Christian admiral dad, and grew up as the unpopular bullied fat kid in school. He wasn't someone who freely got to party when he was in his teens, so he didn't have all this energy to let out like many other kids have. He was a sheltered nerd.

Drugs were his coping mechanism when he got older. Look in the mirror before you judge. He wasn't a sexist or racist pig like Axl Rose.

He's one of my heroes. For a shy sensitive individual like himself to totally reinvent himself as a confident, masculine rock 'n roll star with massive sex appeal is nothing short of miraculous.

The people who hate Jim either don't have enough information, and/or don't want to admit their own flaws. Admitting one's flaws is all part of breaking on through to the other side. The Doors' music shows people their own demons, and many people don't like that.
