Their formation was first revealed by original Minimoni member Mari Yaguchi in early May 2009 in a blog post, where she revealed Tsunku had asked the members for their permission to revive Minimoni. Near the end of May, Tsunku confirmed that Minimoni would be revived with a new line-up, announcing then Morning Musume member Linlin as its first member and leader. Near the end of June, the full line-up was revealed, along with the unit's new name, Shin Minimoni (meaning New Minimoni) and that their first new single, a cover song called "Tentomushi no Samba" on a Hello! Project compilation in July 2009. Shin Minimoni later released a second single in December 2009, an original song called "Pen Pen Kyoudai" on a Hello! Project compilation.
In 2010, they continued to remain active, appearing regularly in Hello! Project tours and other appearances as a group. In December 2010, Linlin graduated from Morning Musume and Hello! Project, effectively graduating from Shin Minimoni. Fukuda Kanon was appointed as Shin Minimoni's new leader and the unit continued as a trio.
Following their tour as part of Hello! Project's winter tour in January 2011, Shin Minimoni ceased activities along with five of the other seven revived shuffle units, unofficially confirming their disbandment. Since then, Akari debuted in S/mileage (now known as ANGERME) and Karin debuted in Juice=Juice. Unlike most of the other revival units, Shin Minimoni hasn't had a reunion performance since they disbanded.
