Profile:
Anglo-Dutch rock band formed in London, UK, in August 1980. In 1984 the band moved to Amsterdam, Netherlands.
The Legendary Pink Dots exist in the fields of experimental and psychedelic music. The band is fronted by Edward Ka-Spel, who doubles as singer and chief lyric writer. Phil Knight (The Silverman), Erik Drost, and Raymond Steeg make up the current lineup of the band. The sound is often a conglomerate of electronics, saxophones, guitars, drums, and Ka-Spel's distinctive voice and lyrical invention. Side projects of the band include The Tear Garden (with cEvin Key from Skinny Puppy), and Mimir (with Christoph and Andreas Heemann), plus solo ventures.

So...that's that, then. I was blessed (or whatever) to catch The Legendary Pink Dots in Stadt Hamburg in Malmö, Sweden, in 1991. My first LP was Brighhter Now in 1982...jeez! What happened to those 40 years...?!? I also caught Edward Ka-spel open for Tuxedomoon at the same place a few years before. Also, I saw Tuxedomoon perform there (AND at a the fancy concert hall a few years later), as well as Blaine L. Reinger solo (at Stadt Hamburg)...oh, were they all in their prime! Now, The Silverman is 68, and Edward Ka-spel will be 68 in January... SING WHILE YOU MAY!

They'll be playing in €Urope in February (mostly Germany and Central Europe, but also Italy, Amsterdam and Paris). More dates will hopefully be added.

NEWS FLASH! The Silverman has "retired" per Edward Ka-Spel & has been replaced by Randall Frazier (Orbit Service) for the 2022 US tour. The performance at The Chapel in San Francisco last night was one of the most inspired I've attended by any 3-man line-up of LPDs since the 1989 US tour. If you're on the fence about going to their show near you by all means GO! You're in for a treat!

It’s almost supernatural how a band can be so prolific, and maintain such a consistently high quality. The only band who can equal them when it comes to both longevity and dependable excellence are the British folk/punk/Oi band, New Model Army. Both groups have been active for about 30 years now and, to my ears, neither have released a single dud record. I do prefer the Dots music after their relocation to the Netherlands, but that’s simply due to improved production. I’m eagerly waiting for the next Chemical Playschool to come up for sale on disc.

The Legendary Pink Dots are indeed the most fabulous band of psychedelic and experimental music with always a little pearl of pop hidden between the sounds-I follow the Dots since the eighties and I have never seen in concert such impressiv performances...a lot of songs could be hits on a hitparade for poplovers and a lot of sounds were guiding lights for the new dark age we live in....the music is a painting with millions dark shadows and more than millions of bright lights with came from sun and the stars to hit your eye for love and peace and a little tear in a curious emotion for getting more of this-still alive....and still follow the sign of the time....respect and honour to this....one of the most important "underground band "-ever....as their slogan sing while you may---

though there must be hundred thousands of LPD fans starting to cry when they hear "i love you in your tragic beauty" or "premonition 16" or "any day now" or any other "hit" by this most incredible band they remain underrated as hell. this is mostly because they simply define their own musical scales and skills. the PIAS-albums ANY DAY NOW, CRUSHED VELVET APOCALYPSE, THE GOLDEN AGE and MARIA DIMENSION or the ultra-timeless cooperation with SKINNY PUPPY as TEAR GARDEN in the mind-blowing TIRED EYES, SLOWLY BURNING are as innovative and breathtaking as the BEATLES or THE WHITE NOISE must have been back in their own times... and I am trying not to exagerate. I respectful take a bow in front of this band.
