If there is one dj for me who sums up the whole deathcore, gabba, hardcore, doomcore, speedcore genre that dj has to be H.M.S. standing for...(House Master Steve). He played the tunes that mattered, from UK hardcore to dutch and german speedcore, at a time when gabba was a real force in the UK underground rave scene. His sets were always cranked right up to the max and he is one of a few dj's who could make this stuff not only sound listenable but tightly mixed. First set i ever heard was Helter Skelter "Energy" 1996, with MC Ribbz on top form, the industrial strength shines through at a time when Helter Skelter was breaking all boundaries not only with the sound but with the UKs best hardcore techno/gabba djs. Looking back it was probably this Energy 96 set which steered me eventually towards the hard trance of M-Zone & Mark eg. His sets were always banging and HMS was a regular crowd pleaser at raves such as Helter Skelter, North Radical Technology & Dreamscape to name a few for those who could handle it!! Sadly no longer with us, HMS aka Steven Pacquettes sets will live forever not only with the old skool fortunate enough to witness them but the new skool looking for inspiration from the sounds of yesteryear. R.I.P. H.M.S.
