After the breakup of Jane's Addiction, vocalist Perry Farrell and drummer Stephen Perkins went on to form Porno for Pyros, who became the Boy Wonders of American Radio and such, while bassist Eric Avery and guitarist Dave Navarro formed Deconstruction, a band that received little notice beyond being a launching pad in Navarro's trek to Red Hot Chili Peppers.

But the truth of the matter is that Deconstruction is quite possibly the best album to come from any segment of the Jane's Addiction camp, past present or future. True, you have to be ready for it, get the sleepy out of your head, stretch your back muscles a little, take a couple deep breaths, brace yourself, that kind of stuff, but once you get there, it turns out this album holds the basic spirit of Jane so much more than anything else any segment of the band has done since Ritual (and that's including anything the reunited Jane did). No, it doesn't much sound like Jane, but therein lies the beauty. For Jane rehash, look no further than Porno for Pyros. For something of the same spirit, look here.

Which could be the very problem. A huge chunk of the Jane fans are going to prefer more of the same, while those who are not fans of Jane aren't going to understand this in the first place. The basic spirit of Jane, yes, but taken to an entirely fresh spot on the musical landscape. Which is as it should be.
