Profile:
Graphic designer, artist, drummer. Son of singer and guitarist Pablo Rosario, Sr., brother of percussionist Pablo Rosario, Jr. and cousin of album designer Yogui Rosario. In the late 1960s Charlie Rosario began his career in Latin album cover art with a psychedelic painting for Tito Puente, which he was not credited for (Tito Puente: The King / El Rey). In the early 1970s he worked for Izzy Sanabria. Striking out on his own as a freelancer, by the late 1970s he had designed album covers for various Latin music record labels including Alegre, Coco, Combo, Fania, Ghetto, Kubaney, Mericana, Salsa, Salsoul, Tico, TR, and Vaya. Rosario’s graphic design work included layout, typography, photography and illustration, as well as something he called “sculpture graphics” which were unique three-dimensional art objects that were then photographed for cover designs. Rosario is probably best known for his two iconic album covers done for Eddie Palmieri: The Sun of Latin Music (Coco, 1974) and El Rumbero Del Piano (RMM 1998).

Yogui Rosario, a designer and photographer, is Charlie Rosario's cousin, not brother. One of Charlie's brothers is the percussionist and composer Pablo Rosario, Jr. Pablo and Charlie's father, Pablo Rosario Sr., was a musician and singer as well as a radio personality and electrical engineer.

Charlie Rosario is the brother of another great Brooklyn artist, Yogi Rosario. They've done some great work on designing record jacket covers. Both are good friends of mine.
