Terramare

Profile:

Terramare was a band from Parma, Italy that formed in 1998 by Davide Marchetti. The band's lead vocalist was Michela Ollari. The band's repertoire included original songs and covers of some of the best Italian singer-songwriters such as De Andrè, Daniele Silvestri, Conte, and Capossela. Terramare's music was characterized by Mediterranean tones, pop, rock and folk influences, and always remained acoustically oriented.

Since their inception, they played alongside many renowned artists such as Nomadi, Massimo Bubola, Bandabardò, Tiromancino, Quintorigo, Mercanti di liquore. They received numerous accolades at some of the most important national festivals and competitions, including being finalists at Sanremo Rock, the Premio Pavanello in Trento, and winners of the "A. Daolio" competition and the national "Cant'Autori" competition in Silvi Marina (TE).

Terramare performed as a five-piece band, with Enrico Torreggiani on drums, Emiliano Bozzi on bass, and Giovanni Lucifero on accordion completing the group's artistic line-up. They performed live across the country until 2008, when the group decided to stop playing.

Their first official release, "Canti rubati", is a nine-track album that features a selection of songs from Davide Marchetti's entire production. To ensure the highest quality, Terramare enlisted the artistic direction and arrangements of Lorenzo Monguzzi and Piero Mucilli of Mercanti di liquore. The result is an album with Mediterranean tones and influences from pop and other styles.

The themes covered in the songs are in line with the best singer-songwriter tradition, from the social issues addressed in songs like "Buona Luna," "Preghiera di notte," "Virus," and "Straniero," to the narrative tone in songs like "Tua madre aspetta il circo," to more intimate lyrics in songs like "Canto triste degli amanti" and "Canto rubato." To close and reopen the album in a circular manner, the last two tracks, "La conta" which talks about the inexorable flow of time, and "E gridare che...", a cheerful ballad, which brings us back to the theme of birth and eternal renewal.

"Canti rubati" was self-produced, and was released under Mezzanima Records (the label created and managed by Mercanti di liquore and the Mezzanima studio in Arcore) and distributed by V2 Records-Sony Music, Although the band is no longer active, their music continues to be appreciated by fans today.
