Grew up in Oklahoma, where he played as part of his family's gospel group. Co-founder of Calexico.
Marriage to DJ/musician Tasha Bundy (a member of Calexico for their 1997 debut album, Spoke) broke down in 2001. He has a daughter, Mia Convertino (with Tasha), and a son, Holden Convertino, with his current wife Christina Convertino who he has a step daughter Kayleigh Lawson-Michod.
