Profile:

Star Band de Dakar, or sometime known as Star Band, was a Senegalese group formed the 3th in August 1960 by Ibrahim Kassé, Le Miami Night Club's owner in Dakar, with musicians such as Dexter Johnson and Mady Konate, singers Laba Sosseh, Papa Serigne Seck, Amara Toure and Youssou N'Dour.

Related and spinoff groups include Etoile De Dakar, Orchestra Baobab, and Star Number One (a.k.a. Orchesta Number One de Dakar, Number One du Senegal, Number One, No. 1 De Dakar, and Starband Number One, all with various abbreviated forms).

In late 60's, the band leaded by Laba Sosseh and Dexter Johnson (2) was renamed as Superstar De Dakar.

Most of the Star Band De Dakar records were produced by Ibrahim Kassé, the Miami nightclub owner and sometimes musician hence his initials IK were used as part of the catalogue number.
