The Jesus Lizard

Profile:
The saga of The Jesus Lizard begins in Texas. Vocalist David Yow and bassist David Wm. Sims were in the seminal Austin, Texas band Scratch Acid whose exploits are now legendary. Both moved to Chicago after Scratch Acid's demise where Sims played in Rapeman. Sims began playing with guitarist Duane Denison (Cargo Cult) and the two recruited Yow to do some singing... thus The Jesus Lizard was born. The Jesus Lizard helped create "alternative" rock, but kept it anchored to reality, refusing to be taken in by corporate marketing strategies.

Anyone who saw them live KNOWS. After you experienced them, all you wanted to do was experience them again. Greatest live band ever. No bad nights, no off nights. Total consistency every time. You can listen to the albums and say yeah so what. But when you saw it live, you thought holy mother of god, this is what it's all about. A grinding, precision jackhammer of a sound that floored you. Made you want to get in front of the stage and mosh with the best of them, all the while helping Mr. Yow stay surfing on top of the crowd, without getting a boot in yer eye. Saw them about 8 times, got to be a sort of religious experience. The very best ever. Long live the Jesus Lizard ! ! !

one of the world's greatest live bands. although they kept fairly true to the music through their career, i harbor no ill feelings to their playing lollapalooza or signing to capitol records. cause, man, a band deserves credit (money) at some point after mucking it out in the trenches for SO long. (according to David yow.. when lollapalooza called they were like no thanks but when lollapalooza told them how much money they would get, jesus lizard were like.. yeah perry farell, gotta love him, bless his heart, yeah lollapalooza best idea ever). I actually enjoyed seeing them at lollapalooza especially when that doof beck thanked david yow for the wet stage do to an unreasonable amount of bodily fluid. their club shows were no less than stellar. RIP (or until at least the TnG 30year birthday bash)
