Amazing band from the UK not just because the two main members where so ahead of their time but the artwork that garnished the covers where breathtaking. They where truly unique and to this date I have yet to hear any band remotely this diverse stylistically(which can be good and bad!).
This was art rock, progressive rock and world music all wrapped in a one boutique package. The music early on had vocals and a Jethro Tull like vibe mainly because some of the flute playing was a bit more staccato and breathy like that of Ian Anderson but mid period Jade Warrior was another beast all-together bringing in oriental instrumentation, psych sounding guitar, Moog(compliments of Steve Winwood) and percussion. I swear I hear some guitar work very reminiscent of later period Steve Tibbitts on Kites.
The Island years in my opinion where the most dynamic, colorful music this duo ever released and to this day does not sound as dated as much of the progressive rock of that era tends to sound. This was mainly because JW stood miles away from period sounds ie wah-wah pedals, overly phased keyboards, Rhodes etc. Not that those particular sounds are unwarranted but they do lend "that" sound to a particular era of music making. In any case if your ears are a tad more adventurous check out this bands output even the later period material which is more serene is still worth a spin on a quiet evening!
