German ethno music guru who weaves cross cultural music for the inner sanctum.
Why more people dont know about Mr. Micus is beyond me. He is a truly gifted musician able to reciprocate his own musician pathways using ancient percussion, flutes and string instruments without sound traditional or stale.
I was introduced to his music via the Hearts of Space radio show when it was nationwide via public radio(remember those days when radio was worth listening to?)
I am impartial to his early recordings East of the Night in which he performs on a nylon string guitar but not in a flamenco fashion just very different in his approach albeit tuning and melodic movements its brilliant. Deeper in his catalog Behind Eleven Deserts and Ocean are also highly recommended. He performs on just about anything acoustic and for the most part non-western(except the guitar) and each instrument is treated with reverence you can hear it in the subtleties of his perfomances.
His music might come off a bit avant, folky but upon a deeper listen and with open mind you can hear he's tapping into something much more visceral and sincere in his compositions which I surmise are mostly improvisations with loose structure something appealing to me as a fan of electronica and jazz.
I hope one day a label will release Archaic Concerts as this was his first official release and deserves a nice re-release on cd!
