Peter Klatzow (b. 1945) is a South African composer, pianist, and music educator, an emeritus professor of composition and former director of the College Of Music, University Of Cape Town. In 1964, he received a scholarship from the South African Music Rights Organisation and spent a year at the Royal College of Music, London studying with Gordon Jacob (orchestration), Kathleen Long (piano), and Bernard Stevens (composition). Klatzow was also a student of Nadia Boulanger in Paris.
In 1966, Peter returned to South Africa and began working as a music producer for SABC in Johannesburg. Klatzow joined the faculty of the South African College of Music in 1973 and later was appointed a professor in composition. He received an honorary DMus in Composition degree (for published work) from the University of Cape Town in 1999.
Throughout his career, Peter Klatzow has composed multiple orchestral and choral works, as well as liturgical and ballet music. He also authored Composers in South Africa Today book, published by the Oxford University Press in 1987.
