"Oh, what’s a blogger type to do when convenient genre labels fail…? Add the word “post” of course. So let’s call Jeff Lane’s Tereshkova release Pelagic Post-pop, Post-gaze, Post-folk, or, maybe, just listen to it instead. This, the 210th release on the venerable Night People, is bursting with heart rending vocals, romantic, emotional moments, big smeared production, basically all of that dreamy pop “stuff”. And ultimately confounds that perfectly sensible combination by feathering wicked oscillating bass, chugging riffs, spacey synths perfectly throughout. I’m particularly partial to the mix on this one. A big noisy buzzing cohesive whole, the kind of soundscape where you can’t understand a single lyric, but you understand exactly what’s being said. I spoke highly of the previous Tereshkova release Romance Space on the old GMLT referencing an almost neo folk quality. That’s still very much on display, but this release feels less nostalgic, more futuristic. Maybe what I’m hearing is a maturing of the project, but regardless, this is an off the radar artist that needs substantial attention."
